Earlier I replied to a post written by Jane Hinton, after I posted I thought, I should post here to get the most responses as possible. This is what I wrote.
My name is Michelle Lee (Bowen) Smith. I am descendant of William Elisha Bowen and Harriett Amandaville Reid. They are the parents of Mary Jane Bowen who is the wife of David Brinkley George. David Brinkley George is son of your Wiley and Martha George.
When I was 9 years old my family went on vacation. As a child I thought that we were just on vacation, years later I found out that it wasn't just a vacation, it was a research trip. My father had started a family tree. We went to Mississippi, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Mexico well I'm sure you get the picture. Anyway one of the places we stopped was Clinton, Oklahoma, where we visited Chester and Zelma George. I don't remember staying to long, maybe just for the day. Mr. and Mrs. George talked to my dad for hours, telling him stories about the old days, meanwhile my mother was writting down every name that was mentioned. In the afternoon, they visited with us children and showed us around the property. Mr, George took us to the garden to get some fresh corn to have with dinner, they were so proud of their garden. After dinner the adults went back to takling about the family. My mother pulled out all the names she had written down and started asking questions.
Mom and dad had put alot of it into family group sheets. The cool thing is that they kept all the papers with contact numbers and where they lived. When we returned home dad continued to correspond with people we visited thru letters and phone calls. Several people sent him photo's of the extended families, not to mention the numerous pictures he had taken on the trip. What I am eventually getting to is that,I have all of my fathers work. When my father died in 1979, my mother didn't know what to do with the books, so she gave them to a male cousin of mine. When I finally got everything back, I found that some one had gone threw the books and tore out pages and pictures. As you can imagine I was very upset about it.
Fortunatly, all the negatives were still in the holders. Dad kept them as a back up in case something happened to the originals. Turns out this was a good thing. huh!
Okay so to my point, YES I have one. I was wondering if you might have a photo of Wiley George? I have a picture of someone I think is Wiley but, because the pictures were seperated from their labels. I can't be sure without verification.
I hope that you see my post, as your's is a couple of years old. If any one else has pictures or knowledge about mine, I could use your help as well. please email me direct at firstname.lastname@example.org Michelle
