My oldest known George ancestor is Russell George, b. CA 1833 in SC per 1860 census, the only one I can find him in. He marries in, and is living in, Calhoun (formerly Benton) County, AL at least from the mid-1850s until his death in 1863 with Co F, 58th Alabama, in the War of Northern Agression, after the Battle of Chickamauga. I have participated in the George Surname DNA Project and currently have 67 marker DNA Matches with surnames Boggan, Neal, Graham and Bookout families. The Bookouts were currently in Walton Co, GA in 1830 at the same time Russell's in-laws were there (ggggf Beverly Allen Griffin). This Graham family was in Benton/Calhoun Co, GA at the same period that my Russell George was there. These matches may be back before there were surnames but help narrow the search. My confirmed Haplogroup from a recent deep glade test is R1b1b2a1b5b and equates to M222+, The King. For those George Researchers who have not yet had a male George participate in this important work, please do so soon and help all we George researchers break the code on our lines. Family Tree DNA and more info on the project and other contact info can be found by searcing this site.
