My name is Alexandre Aikawa, 39, I am a sworn translator for the Portuguese and English languages. Unfortunately I still cannot speak/write Italian well enough so as to be able to communicate in this language, however, I am working on it, thus, I ask you to be so kind as to understand such limitation of mine.
I happen to descend from an Italian family who established in Brazil as settlers in early 1900's.
All I know is that my great-grand father was registered in Brasil as Pasqual Gerage, an immigrant doctor coming from Calabria, Italy. According to my grand-father, Dionisio Gerage (who unfortunately died a few years ago), supposedly my great-grand father's real surname was originally "Gerace" or "Geraci", that is, his name was unfortunately misspelled by the Brazilian customs authorities upon his arrival to this country. Thus, I suppose Gerace is my real "root". According to a some few pieces of information my great-grand father had left Italy on account of some problems he seems to have had with the law.
Now, such a long time after their passing, and since the "Gerage" family in Brazil is so affective, I thought that we might as well try to find our other relatives overseas. Our sole purpose is to try to establish a "channel of communication" with them and, maybe, to try to find out more about our past, and, then, "reconstruct" our family history. I also think that the remaining side of our family in Calabria might as well be interested in finding out what happened to their brother who came to such a distant land for good.
I suppose you all are very busy people and of course I don't mean to burden you with extra work, however, I would most appreciate if you could supply me with possible ways in which I could find out more about such family.
Probably within one or two years, I intend to go to Italy to visit a close friend of mine who lives in Siena, then, I would probably take advantage of the opportunity to visit my ancestors' homeland, as well, if I feel that I am welcome, of course.
I hope you can cast some light on this issue, therefore, I would kindly ask you to try to get in touch with any of our Gerace relatives there who might know something about our family history and if they could get in touch with me.
Please, feel free to give them my e-mail address so that they can get in touch with me.
