Hi Jeanie - thank you for answering my e-mail on the genforum.I think you have some names spelled wrong but I'll give you what I have.Sir Robert de Ros was a Magna Carta Baron. He built Helmsley or Hamlake castle in Yorkshire Co and Werke in Northumberland. He was born in 1177 and died 1226/7.He isburied in the Knight's Church/New Temple in London. He was married to Isabel (widow of Robert Bruce), daughter of William the Lion, King of Scotland. The descent is as follows:
Sir William de Ros -m- Lucy (Lucia) FitzPiers (daughter of Reginald of Blewleveny in Wales)
William de Ros of Ingmanthorpe -m 1268 - Eustache FitzHugh (daughter of Ralph)
Lucy (Lucia) de Ros -m- Sir Robert de Plumpton (Yorkshire)
Sir William de Plumpton -m 2nd - Christian Mowbray
Alice Plumpton -m 2nd - Sir John Boteler of Bewsey in Warrington, Co. Lancaster (son of William le Boteler)
Alice Boteler -m- John Gerard of Kingsley and Bryn (b. abt. 1386, d. 11/6/1431)
Sir Peter Gerard -m- Isabella Strangeway (daughter of Sir James)
Sir Thomas Gerard -m 2nd - Cecily Foulishurst (daughter of Sir Robert)
Peter Gerard, Esquire -m- Margaret Stanley (daughter of Sir William)
Sir Thomas Gerard (fought at Floddam Field, died of wounds at Berwick) -m- Margaret Trafford (dau. Sir Edmund)
William Gerard of Newhall, Co. Lancaster, Gentleman -m- ?
This is all I found on this line in my grandfather's papers. His name was Ross Forrester Collins and is listed in John Wurts's book "Magna Carta," part VIII as descended from Sir Robert de Ros (Roos).Any information you can give me as to ancesters on William and more recent would be greatly appreciated.I have only been able to trace my grandfather's line back to Ohio in the early 1800's and up to William Gerard. As you can see, there is a large gap.I did get information on a later message that William was married to Constance ?.Their son was Thomas, B. 1540/41, -m- to Jane?.Their son was a John, m. 2/16/1607/08 to Isabel ?.Thier son was Thomas (immigrated around 1650), m. Abt. 1629 to Susanna Snow.I will also let her know what I have given you.Anything you can give me will be greatly appreciated. My e-mail address is [email protected] again thanks.Mary
