Ivan V. Gerry RAYMOND -- Ivan V. Gerry passed away peacefully at his home in Raymond surrounded by his loving family. He was born the son of Leslie Albion Gerry and Marjorie Blanche Plummer in Raymond on Oct. 11, 1928, at his grandmother, Barbara P. Plummer's farm on Rattlesnake Mountain. He was educated in his early years at the school in East Raymond, which is now the Town Office. He graduated from Deering High School in June of 1946. His senior year he managed the Deering High School football team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1946, serving with the 88th Division-350th Regimental Headquarters Company, known as The Blue Devils in Tarcento, Italy. He was discharged Nov. 24, 1947, after the war as the army was being downsized. Ivan had a passion with automotive mechanic work. In the early years he worked at several shops enjoying his craft. In later years, he was employed at Dielectric Communications in Raymond until in 1992. He retired with close to 30 years of service before having medical problems. As a teenager he enjoyed whittling with wood, he later learned to carve little baskets and pitchers from dried peach seeds. He married Rita Dawn Warren of Baldwin in March of 1955. They raised a family of three and found a peaceful family home in Raymond. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Rita; son Craig and his wife Deborah of Raymond, daughter Dawn Lee Pennington and husband Ray of Perry, Okla., daughter Brenda and husband Mike of Perry, Okla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Eugene Gerry and Ronald Plummer, both of Casco. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his physicians, home care providers, Hospice of Southern Maine and many friends. There are no visiting hours. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, May 16, 2008, at the Mountain Road Cemetery in Raymond at 11 a.m. A reception is to follow at the Raymond Village Church vestry on Main Street. Arrangements are in the care of Hall's Funeral Home, Quaker Ridge Road, Casco.
