I will not comment on the questionable nature of the posting to which I am responding.Even the parentage of William Gilliam (b.ca 1720), husband of Mary Jarratt, is speculative at this point and to state that the Gilliam family is "of Norman descent is certainly adventurous. The main intention of this post is to yet again restate that William Gilliam, husband of Elizabeth Ellis and son of William and Mary (Jarratt) Gilliam had NO children.
There were three William Gilliams who resided in Buckingham Co., VA.#1William Gilliam, Sr. who was a native of New Kent Co., VA and the husband of Mary Jarratt.# 2 William Gilliam, Jr. the son of the first William Gilliam and the husband of Elizabeth Ellis. # 3 William Gilliam, the father of Richard Gilliam.
Devereaux Gilliam was married to Edith Ellis, daughter of Charles and Susannah (Harding) Ellis.William Gilliam was an elder brother of Devereaux Gilliam, and married Elizabeth Ellis a sister of Edith Ellis.William Gilliam, Jr. the husband of Elizabeth Ellis, settled in Wilkes Co., GA where he left a will which bequeathed his estate to his surviving siblings.
Please consult my earlier posting regarding William and Mary (Jarratt) Gilliam. It discusses the abovementioned people. You will note that William and Elizabeth (Ellis) Gilliam were residing in south central VA when they sold land inAmherst Co., VA prior to their move to GA.Their length of residence in Buckingham Co., VA was very short.
Elizabeth (Ellis) Gilliam is not mentioned in the will of her mother, Susannah (Harding) Ellis Bickley, as she predeceased both her and her husband, leaving no children.
The original intention of posting information to the Gilliam GenForum was to refute erroneous information that has continued to be perpetuated regarding this Gilliam family. The mis-identification of William and Elizabeth (Ellis) Gilliam as the parents of Richard Gilliam is a classic case.
I hope that this will enable others to correct their records, including Mr. Jerry Gilliam and his homepage.
I would caution others not to rely on secondary sources and information they find online which is not verified by references to primary sources, etc.
