Dear Don,
Many thanks for your very prompt response.
I am very new to this business, and never know what to believe. So I am making no assumptions.
The information came from three places. (1). The script from the LDS (I have only just found out what that is, Thanks!) can be found at Donna's Genealogy Links, When you get there click on Dunoon + Kilman Lamont Christenings.
(2) From our own family research. Dad went to Scotland about 8 years ago and found the record Archibald Lamont M Margaret Gillies 10.3.1757, and the birth of their son Archibald on 9.12.1778. (3) A complete (?) tree came from Lamont Clan researcher George Young. I would send it to you if I had your email address.
All three sources agree on both Archibalds' information, but not all three agree about the other children. We are treating all the information with respect but 'holding it at arms length' if you know what I mean. I have about 180 descendants of Margaret Gillies (all Lamonts) here in New Zealand waiting for the outcome of this research, and I do not want to get it wrong.
Now.... I know I will be laughed at but what does IGI mean, and where do I go to put the number 510 into?
Just reading the debate between the two of you taught me that you must be intuitive but objective in this business, and I thank you for that.
We are several hundred miles from our nearest LDS centre, but I suppose I could ask them next time they come to the door!
I would be very happy to send you the tree, you can contact me at [email protected] all, it does have an interesting Gillies in it!
Many thanks for your help, and for wishing me good luck!
Donald Lamont.
