Sally, hello, I go back 13 generations to Marin Girard b 1577 in St-Cyr du Vaudrauil, Normandie, France. His son Michel, left France with his wife Francoise Auceaume and sister Marie and her husband Jean Jobin for New France (Quebec, Canada)around 1650. The name changed to Girardin according to Drouin at Augustin Girard who married Genevieve Rivard-Loranger in 1763 in Yamachiche, Quebec. Ultimitely, the name Girard, is derived from the name Gherhard or Gherhart, a German name. Why Girard, and Girardin are used with the name Girard, I don't know, but the family have changed to Girardin down through the years in different branches of the family Girard. I hope that this means something to you. Please stay in contact.
