I have not checked the Gitchell boards for a few days and I was so excited when I read your posting.I just bet your Sarah and my GGrandmother Mary Gitchell Horn were sisters.I am leaving for Europe early in the morning.I will give you what I have, it isn't much, but it is a start. The GITCHELLSof GA are a mystery.
John W. Gitchell b. 1815 in Pam. Sarah Neal before 1850.Sarah b. 1826 in GA.
Mary Gitchell b. Oct 10, 1855 in Whitfield, GA. m. Louis Alford Horn 1870 in Dalton, GAd. 1902 in Doniphan, MO.
I have found John W. in the census in GA just before the Civil War (1850 Burke Co. I think) but not after. I have found several John's in the north in 1860 and later. I have not researched my Gitchell line.I have put this family on my first things to do list when I return in November.
I received the names of Mary's parents from a descendant of Clarinda Gitchell Autry. Her e-mail address isJfrantz@lvnworth.com
I wish you luck in your search.I will get in touch when I get home.I do know for sure there were GITCHELLS in GA in the 1850's
