I have been doing some more digging into these Gladstone records. I have found birth records for Gladstones with an "s" at Wiston and Roberton in Lanarkshire, with two different John Gladstones born in 1795 and 1802. This location is near Leadhills where my great, great grandmother Margaret Gladstone (no "s") was born. It looks like the Lanarkshire and Peebles Gladstones with a "s" were dropping the "s" shortly after the time of her birth in 1he late 1820s. This has left me wondering if her father was one of these John Gladstones b at Wiston. One thing against that theory is that the names in the families do not show up among Margaret's 7 children, whereas she had a son named Alexander, which would be consistent with her having a grandfather Alexander Gladstone. So I am asking for any info that might be relevant to determining the grandparentage of Margaret Gladstone b 1827 at Leadhills. Thanks.
