Here are my notes on Linus D. Gleason Sr. b abt 1803 MA:
!Linus was in Russell, Putnam Co., Indiana before moving to Illinois, appearing there on the 1840 census, as did his cousin John Gleason. The 1850 census for Hancock Co., Illinois shows his trade as Cooper. The younger children by his first wife are extracted from that 1850 census. We should note that the script on the census is rather hard to read,The youngest children have been read as Sylvia instead if Serilda, and Isaac instead if Isau.
!He appears as "Leonard" on the Hancock Co. 1860 LaHarpe Twp. census.Children appearing there are Vilinu 37f OH, Isaac R. 12m IL, Oria V. 8f IL, Nathaniel 6m IL.Also in the household was a Sarah 15fborn Illinois.Uncertain who the mother was of these children.A Lyman Gleason and Mary English obtained a marriage license in Putnam Co., Indiana, Mar. 11, 1828.It seems likely that Mary English was the first wife, and that the census reported birth date for the daughter Julia is in error.Researcher Mrs. William Boatright of Putnam Co., Indiana reported the marriage date as Mar. 11, 1830.
!Hancock Co. Book A-1, #1171, shows a marriage license, Linus Gleason to Valeria La Masters, with a note "marriage not executed".License issued June 12, 1847.It seems likely that this was the "Vilinu" age 37, born Ohio appearing on the 1860 census, or the "Valasy" age 28, born Indiana, on the 1850 census. But, we then note a marriage record in Edgar Co., Illinois of a Lynus D. Gleason to Nourna (or Mourna) N. Lyons on Jul. 7, 1847, so we are uncertain who the mother was of his last children.
!We note also that Early Settlers of New York State, Vol II, by J.W. Foley, 1942, records that a Linus Gleason was admitted in 1830 to the Baptist Church of New Woodstock, Cazenovia, Madison Co., New York, and again in 1835.A Julia Gleason was admitted 1830.It seems likely they were somehow related, if not the same individuals.
!His household appeared on the 1870 census of Grant Twp., Caldwell Co., Missouri, where he farmed. With them were Isaac, Orley, and Nathaniel.
