This family came across from my own research last night and a quick trip through census records found pretty much the same as your own research.I was looking for the parents of Sarilda Jane Gleason (1846-1885) who married George Washington Boice (1827-1884).I decided to track the family of Linus Gleason to see if he was the father since he was a next door neighbor in Caldwell Co., MO in 1870.I couldn't be certain from the 1860 Hancock Co., IL record but it was confirmed with the 1850 Hancock Census.
Neither of these families are actually my line but someone asked for my help tracking the Boice line - George's sister, Rachel, married David Casto and they lived in Caldwell Co., MO from 1849 until about 1900.I trace Castos all across America.Since we couldn't find a father for Rachel Boice, I thought I would work on her brother George to see if I could uncover any clues.
One item of note:George & Sarilda Boice had a daughter, Rachel Vileria (1877-1900) so we can tell where that middle name came from, although since Linus Gleason didn't marry Valerin Lemasters until 1847, she was the step-mother, not the mother of Sarilda.
I also found a reference which I do NOT understand on Ancestry World Tree - Linus Decatur Gleason m. 4 March 1847 in Henderson Co., IL Eliza Ann Lemaster b. 25 June 1829 and divorced Oct.,1857 in Warren Co., IL.This can't be the same Linus Gleason unless he had two wives since he married Valerin in 1847 but could this be the son, Linus Jr., that you mentioned?
