This forum site is new.I hope Gmerek and Gemerek family members will visit it in order to keep it from being removed. My grandfather, Simon Gmerek, and grandmother, Agnes Szymanski, came to Buffalo, NY about 1879.It is said Simon came from a town called Siekierki, Agnes from Czelin. Both towns are along the Oder River in Poland, about 50 miles from Berlin. At the time they left, both towns were part of Brandenburg Province, Prussia (now called Germany). I have visited both towns...found no trace in Siekierki (Zackerick in German), but did find a Szymanski house in Czelin (Zellin in German). It appears two of Simon's brothers came with him.Another brother came in the 1880's. The three brothers are buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetary, Buffalo.Simon is buried behind the Catholic Church in Darien Center, NY (a few miles outside Buffalo). More info later if anyone is interested.
