GODBEHERE and MENZIES
After a bit more digging through the census and BMD I believe that I have now found the Father (different mothers) for the Henry (and Robert) GODBEHERE connected to my MENZIES line.
In 1851 at Miningsby New Allotment (Boston,Lincs)
Robert GODBEHERE widower aged 26 Grocer b Swineshead William son aged 8
Henry son aged 6
Robert remarried in the December Quarter of 1851 to Eleanor Wilson BEESTON and in 1861 they are still in Miningsby
Robert married aged 35 Grocer and Draper b Swineshead Eleanor wife aged 38 b Holbeach
William son aged 18 Grocer
Henry son aged 16 Grocer
Elizabeth daughter aged 8
Eleanor daughter aged 6
Robert son aged 4 (this ties in with the Robert in Liverpool in 1891)
In 1871 William has left home and is working in Ardwick, Manchester as a Grocers Assistant with the CADMAN family. At Miningsby just Robert aged 45 and Eleanor aged 46 are at home. Robert junior is at Holbeach in a private school run by Charles COOK and his wife. Elizabeth is also away from home, listed as a visitor, Draper's daughter, on a farm owned by George HOULDEN in Reversby.
In 1881 both Robert and Eleanor are still at Miningsby but have been rejoined by their unmarried daughter Elizabeth aged 28.
Eleanor Wilson GODBEHERE died in the Sept Quarter of 1881 aged 58
Agnes MENZIES married Henry GODBEHERE in Newark, Nottinghamshire in 1866.
On the 1871 census they are living at
40 Stodman Street, Newark
Henry married aged 26 Grocer b Lincoln
Agnes wife aged 26 b Newark
William F son aged 9 months b Newark
In 1881 Henry is married to a Mary, Children William Frederick aged 11 and Eleanor A aged 10.
Looking at FreeBMD shows a death registration for Agnes GODBEHERE in Newark aged 27 in 1872.Eleanor Agnes was born in the June Quarter of 1871.
There is a second marriage for Henry, in the June Quarter 1876 to Mary FISHER.
Now for the Liverpool connection!
In 1891 Eleanor Agnes was living with her Uncle and his family in Liverpool.
26 Pendennis Street Walton on the Hill
Robert GODBEHERE married aged 34 b Lincolnshire Mary wife aged 29 b Cheshire Percy son aged 3 months b Liverpool Eleanor Agnes niece aged 19 b Newark Nottinghamshire.
Sadly Percy died in the June Quarter of 1891.I think Mary died in the June Quarter of 1896.And that Robert remarried in the June Quarter of 1897 to Margaret CUNNINGHAM.
William Frederick also appears in Liverpool (he was living in Hulme in 1891, aged 21 single and already a Grocer, boarder at the WALLEY family)- in the September Quarter of 1897 he married Jane DANSON (in 1891 living with her Uncle and Aunt Samuel and Martha BILLINGSLY) and by 1901 they are living in Hulme.
2a Mary Street Hulme
William GODBEHERE married aged 30 Grocer b Newark Jane wife aged 28 b Liverpool Eleanor sister unmarried aged 29 b Newark Confectioner
As William and Eleanor are directly descended from my MENZIES line any information would be great - I have details of the MENZIES families in Newark from 1841 onwards which I am happy to share.
