Accord to a genealogy in hand, Samuel Godkin married Mary Hartrick 9 Nov 1829 at St Mary's Ch of Ir in New Ross, Co Wexford. He was then a policeman in Rosbercon, where also he resided at marriage. Mary Hartrick was christened 20 Feb 1809 at St Mary's. Thanks to Mr McMahon, Samuel's dod is known to be 1841. Mary's is not accurately known. A further exploration of the 1881 census reveals 20 with an Irish birthplace. John Hy. Godkin was born 1813 in Co Wexford; Esther Godkin was born 1823 in Co Wicklow. The 1891 census reveals Joseph Godkin born 1825 in Co Wexford. Samuel Godkin is 33, born Co Wexford. Mary Godkin is 13, born Co Wexford, a domestic servant in Bitton, Glouc. John Godkin is 42, a policeman, born Co Wexford, living in Liverpool. His household includes his brother, Samuel, 27, born Co Wicklow. The ages of the children suggest immigration in late 1860s. The 1891 census shows 19 Godkins born in Ireland. The 1901 census shows 14 Godkins born in Ireland. Now retired policeman John Godkin lives with his son William and family.
