Frederick and August Goerne probably came from the village of Goerne near Plaue. All of this land was owned by the von Goerne family.I suspect that 'our' Goernes were not related to the von Goerne family. They were probably peasants and took their surname from the village and/or the family to which they belonged. They took the train from Genthin to Hamburg. The ship from Hamburg to New York.(Probably) the train from New York to Streator, Il.though August may have farmed or owned farm land in Lee County, Illinois, shortly after they arrived. Frederick settled in Streator, worked for several blacksmiths in Streator, opened his own blacksmith, carriage making business in Streator. Richard came from my uncle,Richard Walker of Omaha, Nebraska, on my mother's side.
