Three Gohn brothers came to America from the Palatinate/Bavaria aboard the ship 'Thistle' in 1738.My progenitor was Johannes Gohn.They subsequently moved to Pennsylvania to an area called 'The Barrens' which was West of the Susquehannah river.Several of the family subsequently moved to Virginia near the Cumberland Gap in the 1790's.In 1803, another family group moved to Madison county, Ohio to take up Military lands.The settlement was called Herron Creek. They came to America via Holland and, as I recall, landed in New York.Johannes Gohn was born in the Palatinate. Died in York co. PA. 1769. Md. 1738, Anna Rosina Crantzdorf. She was from Rimschweiler, Germany.Their children were: Andrew (1739), John (1741), John Adam (1743), Jacob (1745), Abraham (1747), Michael (1750), Christian (1753), Elizabeth (1756), Ludwig (Lewis) 1758, Catherine (1760). Adam, son of John Adam (1743),died in Berkeley, Va.(now W.Va.). Was near Sheherdstown. Married Anna Catherine Strayer. She was still living near Sheperdstown in 1795.
