Colleen, I have the record of 1881census from my friend in Edinburgh for the Gold family at Quarryhowe Overtown, Census place Cambusnethan, Lanark Enum Dist 7 page 18.
Janet GoldW41born HamiltonHead(laundress)
William Gold U 19born Glasgow, Lanark(fireman)son
Georgina Gold 12born Newmains (Cambusnethan)Lanarkdau
Marion Gold 10born"""dau
Hugh Gold6born"""son
This would tie in with the facts as we know them except it looks as though their daughter Janet who would have been 9 has either died or is away from the house.I did not have a record of a daughter Georgina's birth before although I have had this census record for some time and had not picked it up.Note William is a fireman on this census. The father James must have died quite young leaving Janet (nee Frame) with 4 or possibly 5 children. They had lost 3 children (Hugh born 1863, Janet Jardine born 1866, Janet Jardine born 1866 and now the third Janet is missing from this census). Did you have a record of Janet (Frame) Gold's death?
