William A. Goldston m. Mary A. Hackworth 1870 TN
According to Merleen Smith Gholdston on www.worldconnect.rootsweb.com:
John Gholson and Gincy Gamble had 4 children
and one of them she listed is:
William A. Goldston
b. 4 Dec 1838
He is known to have married Mary Ann Hackworth on 24 Feb 1870
in Anderson County, TN.
I believe I have found this family in the 1880 US Census
(LDS/FAMILY SEARCH - FREE SITE) AS FOLLOWS:
William A. HOLSTON b. 1838 married male white
age 42 b. TN farmer parents b. TN
wife: Mary A. HOLSTON b. 1849 Married white age 31 b. TN keeping house - parents b. TN
children listed:
Laria (I believe this should be Laris)
b. 1871 dau single female white age 9 b. KS
Molly dau b. 1873 single female white age 7 b. KS
John H. son b. 1875 single male white age 5 b. TN
Elizabeth dau b. 1877 female white single age 3 b. TN
Mary A. dau b. 1879 single female white age 1 b. TN
LOCATION: district 8, ANDERSON, TN
I have been unable to locate any information on any of the children except John H.
all of the children were listed as HOLSTON surname.
I have also seen HOLSTONE and other similar spellings
in this census - which I believe are Golston or a variation.
Laris seems to be a family name passed down through kin and through this family as well.
According to Merleen Gholdston:
William A. Goldston and his wife Mary Ann (Hackworth)
Goldston are both buried in
Anderson County, TN in the New Hope Cemetery.
Ihope this helps someone working on this family line.
It is interesting to note that in the 1840 Anderson County,TN census are listed:
Wm Goldstone (abbreviation as in census)
John Goldson
Lewis Hackworth
Lark Hackworth
I wonder if Lark is the correct spelling and it should be
Laris? Would make more sense....Mary Ann would want to name a child after a relative.
Note that Laria and Molly - above - were born in KS
according to the census and NOT TN.(Laris?)
Does anyone know a name for "Molly" - what is generally used for "Molly" ? Is it Martha Ann?
