According to 1900 Census, John W. Gollihue was born 1843 in Carter Co., Ky. Died: 02-18-1930, Married: 04-18-1879 to Susan Evaline Williams, also in Carter Co.,Ky. They had 12 children. However, photo of the couple's Tombstone,at Gollihue One Cemetery, Carter Co., Ky, by Donna Zachrich 08-14-2000, among 35 others, finds that John W.'s birth date was 01-07-1857.Other reportings have John W.'s birth date as 10-04-1839, Will Creek, Greenup Co., Ky., which in view of the Tombstone writings, is incorrect.
John W. was brother to Mary Jane Gollihue,b. 10-27-1846, Willard, Carter Co., Ky., m. to Robert Wilburn. She being my G/Grandmother.
Another observation of concern, is regarding the 1850 Census for Carter Co., Ky., which shows John W. age 7, which would make his birth date 1843.His parents John, age 29, and Sarah, age 20.As I posted earlier, question was whether Mary Rice or Sarah James was the spouse/mother in 1850.Sarah was supposedly born in 1830, so the 20 year age would fit the 1850 Census. However, the only John W. that Sarah birthed was John William in 1872.Mary Rice was born in 1813.
A note is to the effect that Mary(Polly) Rice's children by John Gollihue, were residing with John's 2nd wife Sarah at the time of the 1850 Census, for Carter Co., Ky. The births 1837-1846) of such children pre-date the birth dates of Sarah James and John's children -(1865 - 1891).
What other documents show the birth date of 10-04-1839, Will Creek, Greenup Co.,Ky for John W. (Wesley) Gollihue? Is the date on his Tombstone for birth date in error?
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help unravel, as far we know, my G/Grandmother was the last born to John Gollihue and Mary Rice, and not their 3rd child.
