I have found that there seems to have been two groups of Gonyeas in Northern New York - the Gonyeas from Clinton County, and the Gonyeas from Franklin County. There are a lot more Clinton County Gonyeas, and I believe they are descended from a Joseph Gonyea. My line comes from Alburgh, Vermont, and two brothers, Isaac and Lewis, came over to Franklin County, New York after the Civil War.
I'm sure these two lines are linked together somehow, I just haven't found it yet. Here is what I have for my line:
Isaac Gonya/Gonia/Gagnon, etc. (born about 1815 in "Canada") married Rose ____ (born about 1814 in "Canada").They had the following children:Isaac, Frank, Lewis, Rose, Josephine, June, Elizabeth, John, Mitchel, and Hubbard/Hubert.
The younger Isaac married Elizabeth Ronda and had the following children:Fred, Isaac, Henry, Israel (these names are iffy - I'm still researching to confirm).
Lewis married Virginia Martin and had the following children:Rose, Jane/Jennie, Fred, and Mable.I am descended through Jane/Jennie.Lewis and Virginia are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton, NY.
I have a little bit more info on the other kids of Isaac and Rose, but most of my info is on Lewis and his family.
If any of these names sound familiar, please let me know.Thanks.
