The many friends in Chariton were saddened by the news of the death of MRS. R.A. CROFT, better known as "MOTHER RUSH", who passed away at her home in Cambria on Thursday evening, April 13, 1905, after a brief illness with neuralgia of the stomach and heart. The remains were brought to Chariton where funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, April 16, 1905, at two o'clock, at the home of her daughter, MRS. ELIZABETH HEMPHILL; Rev. Geo. T. Roberts of Cambria paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the departed and spoke words of consolation to the living. The remains were then interred in the Chariton Cemetery. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful, testifying to the high regard in which deceased was held.
REBECCA A. SCOTT was born in Green County, Pennsylvania, on June 13, 1834. she was married there in 1854, to ARTEMUS RUSH. They came to Fairfield about 1859, removing to Chariton in 1865. This locality has since been her home although she has not lived here all the time. She was the mother of eleven children, six of whom survive her. They are MRS. JENNIE VAN WERDEN of Cambria; MRS. MAGGIE GOODROW of Chicago; MRS. ELIZABETH HEMPHILL of this city; EDWARD E. of Nevada, Mo.; W.A. of Cambria and JOHN of Sedalia, Mo. These sorrowing ones have the deep sympathy of unnumerable friends in this community.
In 1891 deceased was married to JOHN CROFT who passed away several years ago. She was an earnest Christian, having given her heart to the Master at the age of sixteen years, and her life conformed to the teaching of the meek and lowly Savior. She was truly an exemplary woman, having a life full of good deeds. She scattered seeds of sunshine, and her kind words, motherly counsel and friendly interests touched many lives, filling hearts with nobler purposes and higher aspirations. The influence of her life will ever remain, encouraging those who loved her to live as she has lived, knowing that there is One able to reward and bring happiness to sorrowing hearts in the eternal day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CARD OF THANKS
