I can't locate my hard copy of the family tree but suggest that you go to message #92 of this list and you will find all the children of Jacob and nancy Whitley Goodson.Nickolas is listed and I recall hearing about Nickolas dying in Virgina while serving in the Confederate army probably in 1864.
As the story goes, he was married and his wife lived in Virginia and a younger (?) brother left Georgia after Nickolas's death and assumed his name and family.I am not sure that Nickolas's death can be proven and perhaps he just left for a while and pretented to be someone else.
As the the Norrell name, one of Jacob's daughters married a Norrell after being widowed and Norrell was accused of robbing the post office and served time in jail. All of these people lived in and around Walker County, GA.
I will continue to look for my original documents and will be happy to share them with you.I have moved twice in the past 3 years after living in one house for 20+ years and can't seem to get organized again.
Just food for thought - my mother, Grace Goodson daughter of Barney and Elizabeth Akins Goodson, married a man named Owenby around 1922 who turned out to be a bygamist. He was from Alabama and went to jail after my grandparents find out about this.Could this have been confused with your findings?
