Thank you for responding to my post, George. Has any of your group found the Gordon man that fathered your 2 children? Do you have dates for the marriage of Mary Inman and Michael Burtz and perhaps the date of Mary's birth?
I think that one of my Gordon ancestors (Benjamin) might be your man.Several of us (Gordon researchers) have over the years been unable to find much about him. We know that he was born in 1768 in Newberry District, SC. We had the name "Mary unknown" as his first wife and we believed that she had died. We had nothing more about her. We felt like that there was another marriage for Benjamin because one of his sons had a will (1847) in which he left his estate to his FULL brothers and sisters whose names were listed in the will.
The oldest of the children we have is John C. Gordon, b. 1788-89 in SC. We had believed that he was the oldest of Mary unknown's kids. We know that Benjamin and "his wife" traveled back and forth between Georgia and SC. At least one of the children was born in Georgia in 1797.
Anything that you might have about Mary's early history would be very much appreciated. Benjamin's family is well documented with the exception of Benjamin. If your are interested in his line, I'll be happy to share what we have. Thanks again for your response and I hope to hear from you again.
