I recently read an American Heritage Book,"The Pilgrims and Plymouth Colony." It tells quite a lot about Sir Ferdinando Gorges who played an important part in founding the Plymouth Company that was originally chartered by James I. According to the book, he was governor of the great fishing and trading port of Plymouth, England and one of the wealthy financiers backing the Plymouth Colony, originally hoping to establish it as a fishing center in Virginia. However, as we know, the Mayflower landed in Massachusets.
I had wondered if he were related to the Gorgas family, and was interested to see this confirmed in your message .It would be interesting to learn when his family was established in England.
