I am in the process of creating a family heirloom ,original records and photo book . In the collection of letters passed down from ancestors , I have a single letter written by William Rittenhouse Gorgas (1806 - 1892 ) from Harrisburg ,Pennsylvania with the date of 01/22/1839 .
The letter mentions WEST POINT and the PA Canal .He wrote the handsome letter to the Hon. Col. Henry Logan (of Dillsburg, PA) while Henry was a member of the House of Representatives in Washington City , D.C.Henry would later become a U.S. Senator .
William was married to a relative of mine ,Miss Elizabeth Hummel .He was also the Director of the Harrisburg Bank from 1844 - ? .This bank was party founded and operated by my ancestors , the Haldemans .Therefore , they definately would have known each other well .
Interestingly ,William Rittenhouse Gorgas was the 1st cousin of the famous David Rittenhouse (1732-1796) of Philadelphia .David was inturn the Grand-Uncle of my 5th Great-Grandmother ,Eliza Ewing Jacobs ( 1789 - 1884 ). He had married her Grand-Aunt ,Hannah Jacobs ( 1735 - 1799 ).
What I need to know is if anyone knows where William and his wife ,Elizabeth are buried ?I would like to photograph the site and place it with the letter in my collection .
