William Carpenter Gorgas 72 years and six months of age, well known in railroad circles throughout this section, died at midnight Thursday at his home, 626 Canal Street, South Side, of heart trouble. He had been ill since May 1.
For thirty-five years he was an engineer on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Hudson Railroad and for the past ten years had been employed at the South Easton Lehigh Valley shops roundhouse.
Mr. Gorgas is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Gorgas, two sons, Charles B. and J. Floyd, both of Easton; a brother, Frank, of Phillipsburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Simon Frace, Of Phillipsburg, and Mrs. Mary Hertzog, of Delaware, Ohio.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Hoboken Lodge, No. 171, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Ida E. MESSINGER GORGAS was a daughter of Valentine and Percilla EMERY MESSINGER.
Valentine MESSINGER was a son of John and Christina FREY MESSINGER and a brother to Peter MESSINGER, my gg grandfather.
