In a much older posting, SSuave states:«A John Gorrell married an Elizabeth Davidson on 24 Jan 1733 in Billerica, MA. (Vital Records of Billercia,MA.)
Another source states that John was from Salem, NH and "They had a son Nathaniel and a daughter who married, first, Mr. Thompson and second, Deacon Garven ARMOUR (or Armor)." Putnam's Monthy Historical Magazine, Jan/Dec 1895, p.199; by Milon Davidson)
I believe this is the John GORRELL who travelled to the US on the Bristol Merchant 9/10/1685.
It is extremely likely that these are the parents to my Nathanial GORRILL/GORRELL b. Methuen MA.Has anyone any additional information on the above John and Elizabeth. Also, according to family notes, there was a relationship with Lt. Joseph GORRELL of King Phillip's War.
Regarding this GORRELL branch, my father visited Appledore about 20 years ago and spoke to one of the Gorrell patriarchs there are established, pretty conclusively, that this branch HAD NOTHING TO DO with the Devon Gorrell's.
It is also interesting to note that Nathanial's son, Gawn, married an ARMOUR, another Scots-Irish family. In those days, this "ethnic" group tended to marry amongst themselves, so it could be that this GORRELL branch had Scots-Irish roots although nothing at all is known about their origins. There is no information to indicate that it had any direct relationship, at least in the New World, with the N.Carolina line descended from Ralph GORRELL.
I would be delighted for any help or comments on the above and am happy to exchange data as I have Nathanial's line confirmed all the way down to myself!
