Hello Lenore:
I hope the following will help, this I got from
Pennsylvania records In 1850 a Rachel was 26 years old and believed living with others at a
paper manufacturing place in Mississipp (check
spelling) township in Westmoreland County and
believe his name was Shepherd Be??sette and a
Jesse Newton who was a paper maker next place.
In 1880 a Josiah Gosley who was 45 years old was
head of household. With him was sisters Margaret
aged 60. Mary 48,Josiah was listed as a farm
hand and above him was a JOSIAH HARVEY a retired
manufacturer and he was 100 YEARS OLD with daughter Elizabeth Holmes and 2 children Anne and
James Holmes. On the other side of Josiah was a
30 year old John W. Gosley with wife Leah son
Edward and girls Lorna (?) and Lillie.
The above were in 1880 census. In 1870 census
a John W Gosley as 58 years old and was also i
Sewickly Township, Moreland County and was a car-
penter in the household of a Ellizabeth Thompson
(?) aged 59.In a 1850 a 77 year old Mary Gosley
was classified as an "idiot" in M??go D.Campbell
place and he was 40 with wife named Mary A?? aged
34.
Also in 1880 was a James T.Gosley aged 56 wife
Elizabeth, sons Richard 12, Charles 7, Belle a girl 4 & Fanny Gadd a step-daughter and he lived
in West Ward, Uniontown Borough, Fayette County
Pennsylvania. James father was born in VA and
mother MD so census says but wonder if the VA
in reality should be MD.All other Gosleys census
reports say their parents were born in PA which
some I doubt if correct.I hope this helps you
Lenore.God Bless you all and God Bless America.
