There were a number of Gow's that arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada about that same time. Considerable information is available at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia. At least two of the families were quite prolific. Most of them were connected with the sea; some as captains, others as shipbuilders/carpenters Others ended up as farmers and store keepers. My great grandfather (1852 - 1917) added an e to the end of the name. The Gow clan in Scotland is recognised as a sub clan of the McPhersons. There is a distintice tartan and coat of arms for the Gow clan.
