This is VERY interesting, Linda. It would be informative, maybe, if we could see that will and maybe find out why the fight over it.
I cannot PROVE all of the following, but have enough indirect evidence that I should be close to right :-)
John and Ann Gowdy moved from PA to Greene Co. OH where they died - he on 15 Nov. 1807 at age 71y4m and she on 4 March 1816 at age 73y. I have 7 children listed for them. One of these is Ann Gowdy who married James Bull in Greene Co.; they had a son named Robert Scott Bull. Another child of John and Ann is William Gowdy.
I think that this William is the one who married Isabella Fleming; they had a son named Robert Scott Gowdy.
Another son of William and Isabella is John who married Ann Steel; they had a son named Robert Scott Gowdy.
SO, I think the will of the deceased Robert Scott would be very important. Somehow I think there must be an intermarriage between the Scott family and the Gowdy family which is earlier than the ones I now know about. Possibly the Ann, wife of John, was a Scott.
