Rev. Huey Eustace Gower, 90, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Ashland City, Tenn. Born in Cedar Hill, Tenn. on July 14, 1913, he is survived by his beloved wife, Allene Reed Gower, and daughter Jewell Carilin Winsett. He had three grandchildren: Charisse, Cassida and Jaman; three great grandchildren: Jonathan, Michaela and Skylar. Huey and Allene would have been married 64 years on May 4, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Calvina Rosson Gower.
Rev. Gower was ordained as a Free Will Baptist minister and pastored several churches in Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas; 1945-46 Oak Grove Free Will Baptist, Charlotte, Tenn; 1945-48 Friendship Free Will Baptist, Bearwallow Road, Ashland City, Tenn.; 1949-51 Pocahontas Free Will Baptist, Pocahontas, Ark.; 1951-52 Good Hope Free Will Baptist, Henderson, Texas; 1951-53 Campbell Free Will Baptist and Union Arbor Free Will Baptist, Henderson, Texas; 1954-55 Steward Free Will Baptist, Henderson, Texas; 1995-57 Huntsville Free Will Baptist, Huntsville, Texas; 1957-58 Pine Prairie Free Will Baptist, Huntsville, Texas; 1957-58 Pine Prairie Free Will Baptist, Huntsville, Texas; 1958-60 Irving Free Will Baptist, Irving, Texas; 1960-62 Gartman View Free Will Baptist, Comanche, Texas. Rev. Gower also served on the board at First Assembly of God Church. He worked as Maintenance Superintendent at Cheatham County High School from 1974 thru 1980.
Funeral services were held Friday April 23, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Bailey and Bro. Paul Robert Gupton officiating. Active pallbearers: Les Robinson, Jerry Magliano, James Courteau, Paul Krantz, Ron Gossett and Gary Dixon. Honorary pall bearers: James Chasteen and Jerry Smith. Interment was in the Cheatham Memorial Gardens in Pleasant View, Tenn.
Boyd Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
