It has been a while.Your old posting was very interesting with a lot of useful info. Also, very poignant with the information on the children.
Recently, I have been in contact with a cousin of my grandmother.I have read many emails where French Canadians are trying to find a connection to an Indian ancestor. In my family this was true also, that I heard it said many times that my grandmother had Indian blood, but I never knew how.According to this cousin (of my grandmother's), her grandfather, Joseph P. Balthazor (married to Sarah Bricco) had an Indian great-grandmother who was married to a Goyette. From my family tree that could only be Marguerite Bouthillier (born abt. 1791 Quebec, Can. who was married to Joseph Goyette (Born 4 Jun 1788 Que.,Can. and died 5 Feb 1876 Stanbridge, Quebec). My cousin indicated there were family stories handed down of this woman practicing a number of Indian customs--including wearing an Indian blanket and speaking quite a bit in her native language. The stories indicated her husband had a mean sense of humor and would tease her quite a bit about being an Indian.
I don't know if anyone else can corroborate any of this, but I consider her a reliable source as she would have known Joseph P. Balthazor and heard his stories first hand.
