Have tried several times over the years to put a message on this site, which is quite an interesting read. I tried particularly to send a message to my nephew Michael Goymer in Chelmsford. His Great Grandfather George Goymer hailed from London and was one of several brothers. I suspect that their ancestors came from Suffolk. Does anybody know the derivation of the name Goymer? The Hebrew word "Goyim" is the masculin plural for "Nation","Gentile" and "Pagan". Take your pick! Of course, it could just be a coincidence of similarity of language, since when I lived in Israel I checked out a database of Jewish Names...and there was not one resembling "Goymer, but then I suppose there wouldn't be if it means "Gentile"!!!The other theory is that we are descendents of the Hugenots and came over from France in the 16th or 17th Century? Does anyone have a family tree?
