I am also descended from the L'Ardoise Gracie's. (Glenn, I think we are second cousins. My grandfather was James Gracie, son of Hubert and Adele.) However, the point we disagree on is the origin of the first Gracie. I checked out the Louisburg connection based on the info that one of your cousins gave me, but it didn't seem to fit. Would really like to see your data. I have a copy of a land grant for Emmanuel Gracie for lot 32 in PEI, dated May 1784. (PEI is where two of Genevieve Chevarie and Emmanual Gracie's sons were born, so we know Emmanual was in PEI.)The spelling was "Gracie" so it's possible that it was changed to Grassie by the French when Genevieve returned to L'Ardoise to live near her sister. Also, Stephen White beleives he was not French because "Emmanuel" was not a French name. It's an interesting mystery. Please email me you'd like to compare notes.
