My name is David Gradley. I am researching my surname and all its variants. I have a family tree from 1650 to present
day and also have all Birth/Marriage/Death Index Entries 1837 to 1997 for England and Wales certificates from the
General Register Office (now at Myddleton Place formerly at St Catharines House). I am also interested in the Gradley
surname worldwide and any male and female descent from a Gradley family.
In order of descent:-

Andrew Falder, Mary Anne, and Elizabeth. Andrew died in 1857 in the Workhouse, Mile End, Stepney, Middlesex. He
was a seaman in the merchant service. His son Andrew Falder Gradley b 1805, I have no information about. His elder

known children. One son Nathaniel Francis Gradley b 1820 d 1885 who married Elizabeth Cooper in 1840 (lines of

Gradley married Abram Dorrington in 1837 at Shering, Essex. They had one known daughter, Sarah Ann Dorrington b
1838. I presume Abram must have died shortly after as by the time Jane remarried to Benjamin Murley in 1849, she
already had children by Benjamin starting with their eldest son also Benjamin Murley b 1839. I am in contact with
descendants of Benjamin and Jane Murley. The other daughter of Nathaniel Francis and Mary Gradley was Eliza Gradley
b 1811. She first married William Stowe in 1830 at Bow, Middlesex and she was the witness to her cousin, Elizabeth
Gradley ( daughter of Andrew and Mary Anne Gradley) at her marriage to William West Jennings also in Bow,
Middlesex in 1831. Eliza's husband, William Stowe died in 1831 and shortly after, she remarried to Henry Mills Day in
1832 and I am in contact with descendants of this marriage.

I am descended from their youngest son Richard Gradley b 1863 d 1939. In total they had 6 sons and at least 3 known
daughters. The next son Elijah Gradley b 1824 d ? I know nothing of him. The youngest son William b 1830 d ? He may
have married a Mary Ann ? in 1853 and had a daughter Mary Ann Gradley b 1854 in Whitechapel, Middlesex. The

Elijah Gradley b 1793 d 1858 was the youngest son of Robert and Ann Gradley and was born after his father died. He
married Elizabeth Sams in 1816 in Bengeo, Hertfordshire. They had two sons Frederick Gradley and Alfred Thomas
Gradley. Frederick was born in 1819 in Bengeo, Herts and he married Jane Johanna Thodex ( or Thorley) in 1847. They
had 4 children. The eldest, Frederick b 1849 d 1849. The next was Jane Johanna b 1851 d? The next was William Henry
Gradley b 1853 d 1900. He married Elizabeth ? and had 3 sons. This line has died out. The youngest son was John
Frederick Gradley b 1856 d 1933 and he was a policeman. I have a photo of him with his Son and Grandson (both
named after him John Frederick Gradley) after he had retired. There are lines of descent from him to present day.
There were two daughters of Robert and Ann Gradley. The eldest Elizabeth b 1788 married Philip Penton in 1809 in
Limehouse, Middlesex and they had at least one daughter Elizabeth Anne Penton b 1811 in Limehouse, Middlesex. They
may also have had a son Philip b approx 1829. I know very little of this couple.
The youngest daughter, Jane (Ann) Gradley b 1790 married William Stephen Hurndall in 1808 in Bethnal Green,
Middlesex and they had 3 children, John Hurndall, Ann Falder Hurndall and Josiah Hurndall. John b 1809 d 1873 approx
married twice. From his first wife, Mary Ann, he had at least 4 children. He married his 2nd wife, Mary Sutherland in
1855. Ann Falder Hurndall b 1817 married Charles Lees in 1850. No information known about this couple. The
youngest son Josiah Hurndall b 1826 d 1881 married Elizabeth Pople Simmonds in 1854 and had at least 5 children.
Hurndall lines of descent are known to present day on some of the male lines.
I would like anyone who is related/descended from any of my ancestors to contact me at this forum or to my e-mail
address. Also, please ask for a Gradley forum as I continually ask but don't get it hence my message in the UK forum.
