I am searching for any information on the background (parents, German family, and place of birth) of this ancestor:
HENRICK (or "Henry") GRAMM, born "in Germany" in April of 1758.I'm not sure when he came to America, but he lived first in Lancaster Co, PA (where 5 of his 7 children were born) then moved to Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, in 1798.At the time of his death (around 1814), he reportedly owned 500 acres there and another 200 in Knox Co.He and his family were Mennonites. His wife's name is listed as "Christina" but we have no maiden name or dates for her.Perhaps he had another wife before or after her?
I read with interest the much earlier threads mentioning this man started by Sharon Gram Akins and Teisha Taylor and hope they or others have more info on the Gramms from Germany. It appears that even the Gramms for which we haven't been able to find an American connection for at this site all came from the same area in Germany.
Here are the names and birth years I have for the children of the German-born Henrick (Henry): HENRY (1787), MARIA (1793--my ancestor), ISREAL (1804), BARBARA (1805), DAVID (1807), RUDOLPH (1809), and HELENA (1810).I have more info on some of these offsprings' marriage dates if you're interested--as well as a brief description of this family's hardships in their Ohio log cabin if you like anecdotal info. Thanks in advance for any help in filling in the earlier gaps.
