I am researching my grandfather's mother, Ida E. Grammar from Iowa. From the 1880 Census, I have Ida's father as Joseph Grammar and from further research, Joseph's father as Henry Grammar born 1808/9 VA.
I have found Henry's marriage to Betsy/Elisabeth Bohan in December 1827. In the marriage records, James Grammer is listed as "Bondsmen" for the marriage.Witness was Charles McClung. I am told that a bondsmen was someone who usually was a relative and verified the legitimacy of the marriage...in other words, the two parties were not related or have existing spouses.
I would like to find out more about James GRAMMER and how he was related to my ancestor...father? brother? uncle? cousin????If anyone is researching James Grammer and have information that he was in the Knox CO TN during this time, 1827...I would appreciate if you would contact me.
