Thanks to marvellous help from researchers here and elsewhere, I think I may have resolved "my" Mary GREEDY's ancestry, as follows:
From the marriage record of Mary GREEDY and John SAFFIN, 21st Jan, 1838, Wiveliscombe, Mary's father is named as William GREEDY (wife not named). However, upon checking the 1851 census, I found:
Langley Marsh GREEDYWilliam67Ag. Lab.Wiveliscombe,Som. Elizabeth74Elworthy SAFFINWilliamGrandson13 At HomeWiveliscombe,Som.
From this, it would appear that William's wife was called Elizabeth, that she was born in Elworthy, and that she was born circa 1777.
William would seem to have been born in Wiveliscombe, circa 1784.There is only one William who fits these details as far as I have been able to discover, and he was the son of Joseph GREEDY and Ann LEEWAY, who married around 1771 at Wiveliscombe.
This Joseph GREEDY was baptized at Wiveliscombe on Boxing Day, 1749, son of William GREEDY and Elizabeth COLLARD (whose details, I see, have been mentioned on these pages before).
Does anyone have any extra data that may help in my research of this line - for example, who the "Elizabeth" was that William GREEDY married? It goes without saying that I am very happy to share any information I may have with other researchers!
