Thank you very much for your reply. I was hoping that Mary Charlotte Baker, also in Newton County, had married the Greenhaw.
Now. Do you know anything about your Baker people?
What I know is that William Clare Baker died in 1861 in Baltimore, Maryland. His family founded the Edge Tool and Die Company that was on President Avenue in Baltimore. When William died, he left his wife with three young children. It took me a long time to figure out what happened to them.
I found them on one of the early censuses in Newton County. I am thinking it was around 1870 or 1880 but it might have been later into 1900... Mrs. Baker had remarried:
They were in the White Township:
David Stegall, schoolteacher
Susannah Waggner Baker Stegall, wife
children listed and added information:
1. WILLIAM BERGER BAKER married Lear Brown who was the daughter of Hiram King Brown and his wife Sophia Owensby. I got a package in the mail from a lady who sent me a picture of Lear as a child, Sophia, and Francis King, the mother of Hiram King Brown. I got it yesterday and am still shouting glory. I also got a family sheet for the Browns and Kings before they moved into Newton County. I know there is some Newton County information on the Browns but I havent' gotten my hands on it yet. I had it once but my sister confiscated it. Lear's second marriage was to George Washington Holland and they are buried in Newton County in a little private graveyard near Nellie's Gift Shop. With Mr. Baker, Lear had Mary Ellen who married Andrew Jackson Chambers and Rebecca married a Caldwell. All of Newton county.
2. KATE ELY BAKER married John F. Williams of NEwton County, Arkansas. After that, I lose her.
3. MARY CHARLOTTE BAKER. I was hoping that she married the Greenhaw but it isn't her so I don't know what became of her.
then there are about 3 Stegall children. But, I think that after William Berger Baker died, the family of Stegalls moved to Texas and I lost them there.
I live in Indiana and this year our vacation goes to Florida for the birth of our first grandbaby so I won't get to come to Arkansas to do research. Any information you might have to share will be very appreciated.
