Having difficulties tracing the origins of my great grandfather Edward Hale.
He married Eliza Greenland - details not known but presumed to be somwhere in or near Baenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales in approx. 1870. They had 4 children, all born in Blaenavon: Edward J, Ben T, Catherine and Esther Matida (my grandmother).
In the 1881 Census they were at 36 High Street, Llanover, Monmouthshire when Edward stated he was 38 years old and born in Corston, Staffordshire.
Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a Corston in Staffordshire - although there's one near Malmesbury, Wiltshire - but searches of all the traditional sources of information have failed to identify either his birth or marriage.
I would welcome any assistance anyone can give me on this puzzle.
