I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond.I was having trouble with some of the David Greths and I am in the process of contacting older relatives to clear up the confusion. So many of the Greths had numerous children with the same names. I did a research paper as a college project back in 1979, but unfortunately lost the work due to a water pipe break. This is what I have reconstructed so far and I can give you more once I have connected all the children with the right parents.
Adreas Grett b 26 Dec 1720 Lutharinga, Alsace Germany d 5 Jan 1811 Bally, Berks Co., PA buried 8 Jan 1811 St. Paul's Mission, Church of the Blessed Sacrement, Goshenhoppen, Bally, PA Andreas arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Phoenix, John Mason master, from Rotterdam. He took the Oath of Alliegence 15 Sept 1749.
Andreas Grett received a blessing from the Pope, I am not sure what type of blessing and it is unclear when.Family tradition has it that he went back to Europe in the 1750's for the blessing, but some other people are not sure that is when it happened. They feel he received the blessing before 1749 and it was a way to introduce him, his family and others traveling with him to the Catholics in Bally.
Andreas married Mary Magdelena, born Abt 1720. They married sometime between 1749-1754. They had at least five children: John Grett, Michael Grett, Nicholas Grett (I am from this line), Anna Magdelena Grett, Barbara Grett, and possibly George Adolph Grett.
My line is as follows: Andreas Grett (1720-1811) Mary Magdelena Nicholas Grett (Abt 1754) Suzannah DeWald Grett John Grett (1794-1863) Samuel Greth (1816-1889) Suzannah Herber David Greth (1865-1947) Mary E. Bertha Greth (1889-1915) Heister Reinhart Theodore Reinhart (1909-1976) Clara Stump Reinhart Harold Reinhart (1936-present) Anna Schrack Reinhart Susan Reinhart Frey
I am in the process of locating burial sites and taking pictures of the gravestones. There are family members in the Goshenhoppen Cemetery, Bally, PA; the Deppen Cemetery, near Bernville, PA; St. Paul's Blue Church, Lehigh Co. PA, the list goes on.
As I said I am starting to pull this all together and do not have all the loose ends tied down yet.I have found some John Greths, but at this point I have not identified a John Francis Greth.Does Andreas Grett sound familiar to you?Are you connected to him in some way?If you are interested I can send you my complete tree when I get it finished. As of now I am expecting a letter from a relative that should tie down a lot of my loose ends. Also, if you do find that we are connected, would you please send me your information so I can add your branch to our tree?
