ANTOINETTE GRIFFIN ALESSANDRA Died Monday, September 3, 2001. Born Antoinette Marie Griffin in 1902 in Louisville, Kentucky, to John Joseph and Ermma Kelty Griffin, she spent much of her youth in Panama where her father worked as a master plumber during construction of the Panama Canal. After moving to Houston, she attended business school and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad before her marriage to Anthony Alessandra in 1927. First and foremost, Antoinette was a proud and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. An avid bridge player and an accomplished seamstress, she also participated in many church activities at Christ the King Church and later at St. Vincent de Paul Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Legion of Mary. Preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Tony and her six brothers and sisters, she is survived by her daughter, Colleen Alessandra Jennings and husband Edwin; her son, Dr. Patrick Alessandra and wife Fannie Lou; her daughter, Erin Alessandria Connally; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family would like to knowledge the generous and loving care provided to Antoinette by the staff of Maloney Manor at St. Dominic Village. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2001 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at J. B. Earthman -Tanglewood Funeral Directors, 5740 San Felipe @ Bering. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 8, 2001, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Dominic Village Chapel, 2401 Holcombe Blvd., with Rev. James Madden Celebrant. Private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Dominic Village, 2401 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77021, or to the charity of you choice.
