readers will see for the first time .... except where noted UNVERIFIED.
Lower Norfolk was of course the parent of Norfolk, which was formed
from it in 1691.

Robert Grimes is said to have arrived in Norfolk [sic] Co VA on this
“”When Robert Grimes I was born is not known, but he died in 1693 or
1694. His will was proved or probated in this year. Of his wife, no
record could be found. In his will he does not mention her; therefore
the assumption is that she predeceased him.””

Robert Grimes’ name appeared on a long list of payments received by the
estate of William Shipp
1648 Jun 15--LOWER NORFOLK CO VA court
John Harvey sold 400a on western branch of Elizabeth River to Cornelius
Lloyd in Nov 1640 or Nov 1641.Lloyd subsequently sold that land to
John Piper, Robert Bowers and Walter Grymes at an unknown date, and
that deed was recorded 15 Jun 1648.

Upon the petition of Thos Buckmaster alleging that Christo: Rivers and
Robert Grimes “being together has kild of hogg of ye said Buckmaster,
it is therefore ordered yt ye sherr’f shall somon ye psonall appearance
of ye sd Rivers and Grimes at the next county court to be held at Mr
Edmunds to answer at what shall bee objected against them.”

Robert Grymes was granted 200 acs on the head of a creek, being a
branch of the W. branch of Elizabeth River, 150 acres of that total was
granted unto Henry Hooper 13 Aug 1640, who assigned same to Francis
Bright, who assigned to James Mathews, by whom it was assigned to Wm
Titcocke & Wm Bancroft, who assigned to sd Grymes, & the other 50 acres
for the transport of Arthur Dennis.

Robt Grimes and Walker [sic] Grimes are on a list of headrights for
land granted to Coll: Edward Lloyd.

Robt Grimes and Walter Grimes were headrights for Mr Henry Woodhouse,
who was granted land in Lower Norfolk Co.
Cavaliers and Pioneers notes that the land granted to Woodhouse was in
Lower Norfolk Co at the time of the survey, but is “now” in Lynhaven
Parish of Princess Anne Co.
