I have two family stories about Margiana Grinage. First story: (a) Margiana Grinage married Andrew Lathrop 05/24/1819, but he died a few months later. After his death their son, Andrew, was born. (b) Aaron Grinage, father of Margiana Grinage Lathrop, married 'Ruth of Poland', evidently from Virginia as Margiana was born there about 1796.Came to New Orleans about 1798 and lived that vicinity before migrating to St. Helena Parish, LA where Montpelier, LA now located. Second story: Margiana Taylor Grinage married Dec. 25, 1823 in St. Helena Parish, LA.Margiana Taylor Grinage, daughter of Adron & Mary Grinage who lived on the Roanoke River VA.Adron was an orphan and as a boy carried provisions to his brother, who was in the army during the Revolutionary War.Adron Grinage removed to Milledgeville, GA, was superintendent of his brother's plantation. His brother was governor of Georgia. On Adron Grinage's way to Georgia, his daughter Margiana Taylor was born at Greenville, NC (1796)
As with all 'family histories' no one agrees with the other. Both of the stories came from Margiana's g-grandaughters (one descendant of one of Margiana's daughter and the other a descendant of a son).
I have tried to locate a Grinage in Milledgeville, GA - no luck. The story doesn't agree with Georgia history unless Adron (Aaron) Grinage's brother had a different last name -- always possible. Some internet correspondences are showing Waltons and Grinages connected and one of the governors of Georgia was George Walton - see the history books. Milledgeville GA was not established until 1803.And, Aaron Grinage apparently was in LA in the early part of 1800's and had property in what is now St. Helena, LA.Earlier capitals of GA were Savannah(1733-1786), Augusta (1786-1795), and Louisville (1796-1806).
In South LA Records Church & Civil Records of Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes Vol.11794-1840 by Father Hebert Page 241 it shows Grinage, James born 1796 in Georgia 27 years old married 7 Feb.182(date?)
IF Margiana was born 1796 in VA/NC, a "first" son (James?) born in Georgia, and Richard in St. Helena Parish, LA in 1804, it gives a time line for Aaron (Adron) Grinage's travels.
