My Grisham line probably descended from the emigrant, Edward Gresham. They appeared in SC around late 1700 emigrating from VA & settlingin Chester Co., SC. There was a Phillip, John, Thomas, James, David, Moses, Major and others. They eventually show up in Jasper Co., GA & other counties in GA. My oldest known ancestor is James Grisham, b. 1790 - SC. He married Rachel Coody (b. 1805) in Jasper Co., GA. It was her 2nd marriage and his first. They had James Mason (my greatgrandfather) - b. 1824, William - b. 1834, Andrew - b. 1837, Norman - b. 1839, Sarah - b. 1849, Emily - b. 1842 & Martha - b. 1845.
James came to Hill Co., TX with his son James Mason Grisham & died there. James Mason Grisham married Elizabeth Johnson - 21 Aug. 1851 in Pontotoc Co., MS., and Susan Childress ca. 1874 in Hill Co., TX. James & Elizabeth had Mary L., - b. 1851 - MS, Ann - b. 1855 - MS, Joseph - b. 1857 - MS, James W. - b. 1859 - AR, Wm. B - 1860 TX, John M. - b. 1864 - TX. James & Susan Childress Grisham had Henry W. - b. 1875 - TX, Lavada - b. 1877 - TX, Cornelia - b. 1878 - TX & Levi Sevilla - b. 1879 - TX. James & Susan are both buried in Hill Co., TX.
Henry Woodington was my grandfather. I am interested in contacting anyone that is descended from James Mason's children or his siblings. The second family (James & Susan) lost complete touch with the children from his first marriage (James & Elizabeth). I know that some of his descendants went to OK.
Of course, I am also interested in contacting anyone who can tell me who the elder James' father was. It is believed it is either a John or David Grisham who were in Chester Co., SC & Jasper Co., GA.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am past editor of the 'Gresham, Any Way You Spell It' newsletter and would be glad to help anyone with their lines.
