Hi Fred, It's great to hear from another Grogg. My line is Philip, John, Martin, William Harry, William Russell, Charles Harry ( me ) . I have that Philip's father is Henry. Henry's surname seems to be spelled GROGG rather consistently. In the records from 1780's there are some GRAGG's ( Thomas,William, Samuel ). Morton lists the GRAGG family as being Scotch-Irish which I don't question at all. However Philip Grogg and his line seemed to be very much intertwined with the German ( Pennsylvania Dutch ) families. Also there was at least 1 Grogg in PA as early as 1750. Without any other evidence I think that one must consider the possibility that GROGG is a Pennsylvania Dutch surname. Also ther are quite a few GROGGs in present day Switzerland which is where some of the other early Pendleton Co. settlers came from.
