Looking for info on Elizabeth "Betsey" Groom.I've seen where her DOB is listed as ca. 1805.She married William Thomas Benton on 1 JAN 1820 in Caswell County, North Carolina. This couple later moved north to Scott County, Virginia.
I believe Betsey to be the daughter of Zachariah Groom & Elizabeth Wyett who married 28 MAY 1798 in Middlesex County, Virginia, although I have no solid proof Betsey was their child.
I am trying to find out how Betsey Groom Benton ties into the Zachariah Groom of King & Queen County, Virginia whose will was written 10 APR 1785.I found a transcription of this will in "Middlesex County, Virginia Records, Deed Book 1 (1687-1750) and Miscellaneous Records (1752-1831)."Copyright 1992 by TLC Genealogy, Miami Beach, Florida.
I've seen where Betsey's lineage is shown as Zachariah b. 1766, John b. 1780, Zachariah, Betsey. However, I don't think that John Groom became Betsey's grandfather at the age of 25!Also, Zachariah Groom of K&Q County named his son John executor of his will (1785) and I also can't see him naming a 5-year-old boy as executor.I am wondering if the Zachariah Groom with this will may have been a brother or uncle of Betsey's father, instead of her great-grandfather.
I also think Betsey Groom and William Benton may be the parents of Zachariah Benton who married Mary Nunn 1843 in Caswell County, North Carolina.Zachariah Benton also moved to Scott County, Virginia about 1844, the same time William and Betsey Groom Benton moved there.
