Jacqueline, I believe we are related.My great-grandfather, Allen Garfield Grooms had two brothers named Oda and Ennis.Would your maiden name happen to be Fainter?This is what I have: William Riley Grooms (14 October 1870 - 22 June 1914) md. 16 July 1890 Maggie Lee Edwards (3 October 1872 - 23 August 1944) Children: 1) Allen Garfield Grooms (3 June 1891 - 15 August 1948) 2) Ennis McKinley Grooms (31 August 1896 - 3 May 1948) 3) Oda Thomas Grooms (13 October 1898 - 19 April 1973) 4) Hallie Agness Grooms (27 September 1901 - 1990s) 5) Ada May Grooms (9 November 1903 - 1990s) 6) infant (23 June 1907 - 23 June 1907)
My aunt, Faye Hartsfield of Columbia, used to visit Hallie and Ada in the late 1980s and early 1990s.I went with her once or twice to visit.Ada was still pretty sharp.
Oda's grandparents were: paternal:John S. Grooms & Nancy An Gordon maternal:George Thomas Edwards & Dilly Ann Mathis
As far as I know, only George Thomas Edwards had Cherokee ancestry. His parents were Jesse Edwards and Elizabeth Bone.I think Elizabeth's paternal grandmother was a Cherokee maiden.Jean Hickman (Rt 1 Box 170-A, White Bluff, TN37187) has done a lot of research on this line.
