How exciting! I think that we may be related, also. I know that my great grandparents lived in Kern Co. around 1910. A few of my aunts were born either in Bakersfield or Maricopa, in and around that time frame.I tried to look for the 1910 census for Kern and am having trouble.
I spoke with my Auntie Naomi (the only surviving child of Juan and Bessie) yesterday and she was excited to hear that someone was looking for info about her mother.Naomi is the youngest of the children (age 89) and what she knows about her mother's family is very little and may have only been what she heard through family conversations. She insists Bessie was born in Chihuahua, Mx.I am almost sure her naturalization papers may also say the same but, I have to go to my parents, to look at them. What she told me is that her mom's last name was Lara and she was from a wealthy family. When she married Juan, her family disowned her because he was poor.I am not sure whether that is true or not and at this point it is a very insignificant issue. She has fond memories of her mom and describes her as a very intelligent and resourceful woman. What names do you have for Bessie's children? I think I may have mentioned that I have a compilation of the decendents of Juan and Bessie.I had mentioned that Bessie had 12 children, but my Aunt says 16.Maybe, some did not survive infancy or maybe my aunt's memory is a little fuzzy.I could email it to you but your email address is hidden. What generation is your husband? Please contact me through my email, directly, so that we can first confirm that we are related and then I would love for you to be able to speak with my Aunt. She is in great shape physically, but her recollection, at times, is hindered. My email again is email@example.com
